Be Alert to Credit Card Hijacking

Posted by: | Comments (63)

Are you watching your credit cards and bank accounts?

We can never be too proactive in monitoring our financial affairs.  We all know someone who has experienced credit card theft or personal identity theft.  Personal information is becoming more and more available.  But there are some things we can do to help protect our interests.

I would like for all of our readers to consider these tips for keeping safe when dealing with banks, credit cards, and online shopping.

Credit Cards

Credit Cards

Credit Cards

Please, please, please.  Check your credit cards daily.  Make it part of your online routine.    Most credit card companies (with the exception of a few Credit Union cards) give you the ability to access your account online. If you see a transaction occur that you know you were not responsible for, you can quickly file a rebuttal of the charge.  Checking daily also keeps you more aware of the amount you have on your card at any given time.

Bank Accounts

The same thing goes for bank accounts as with credit cards.  Check them daily.  I refuse to have any bank account where I cannot see my transactions in real time.  I want to be able to go to the post office and by the time I get home, see the deduction from my checking account.

Buying online.

I think it is safe to say, that when dealing with large known businesses, it is safe to use your credit card.

However, if you are thinking of purchasing an online product or a service, that has a “subscription”, where you are charged a monthly fee, you might consider using PayPal or AlertPay instead.

Paypal

Paypal

It is very easy to set up an account at either site.  When you make a purchase that has a subscription, your transaction history will display a list of all purchases and subscriptions.  I like to cancel a subscription with the actual vendor, but as a safeguard, I can go into the subscription in Paypal and cancel it there.  I have to say that in all of our research, all the vendors on the internet that we have encountered, have been upfront and honest and immediately honor your request.

So all I am saying is to be careful.  Consider the source.  Once you have a relationship established with a vendor, you can change your payment method back to directly from your credit card if you so desire.

Credit Challenged?

If you are credit challenged as many people are these days, you can still use Payapl or AlertPay.  Paypal allows you to connect your bank account and you can transfer an amount to your PayPal account from there.  Now this process takes several days.  So if you are considering a purchase using this method, you will have to plan accordingly.  This also keeps impulse buying to a minimum.

My Dear friends,

This has been on my mind for some time now.  I hope that you all are watching your financial back.  If not, start today.

As always, here at Truman’s World, we wish you the best in everything.

More and more people are looking to work from home these days.  Their reasons are varied.  They might have an entrepreneur spirit, wanting to be in charge of their own destiny.  They might be in an economic slump with downsized jobs or benefits, struggling to support themselves or a family.  They might just be yearning for something new and different.  Whatever the reason, there are multiple avenues for work at home situations.

Once you have done your research and embarked on your course, there will be pitfalls to avoid during the early months.

  • No written plan or log It is imperative to have a written journal.  There are two aspects to this philosophy.

Business Plan Wikepidia defines a business plan as a formal statement of a set of business goals, the reasons why they are believed to be attainable, and the plan for reaching those goals.  If you do not know how to write a business plan, there are many resources available on the internet.  It does not have to be complicated.  Start simple, review it monthly, and it will continue to grow.

Daily Log As your business becomes more complicated, it is important to write down everything that you have accomplished that day.  As time goes by, you may not remember what action you did when.  You can use something as simple as a spiral notebook (don’t tear out sheets for other things) or create an excel sheet.  As you are working through your day, you will find that there are several items that was not accomplished.  Start them on the next day’s log and check mark off as they are accomplished.

  • Lack of Time Management Time management is crucial.  Structure your day for accomplishing different goals.  For example:  15 minutes for making new facebook friends, 1 hour for article writing, 30 minutes ads, 30 minutes inspirational reading, etc.  You can use an excel spreadsheet or your outlook calendar. Computer Stress
  • Discouragement When success is not immediate, we often fall prey to discouragement.  Use these methods when your energy is dragging.  Receive encouragement from your Shadow Team, remember your why, focus on a task.  Positive action dispels the negative thoughts.
  • Lack of Focus How do you stay focused?  By following your plan.  It is so easy to get distracted by everyday life.  Make sure that your plan includes you and your family.
  • Commitment How strong is your commitment to your goals.  Commitment helps you through the discouragement and focus issues.

As you can see, all of these pitfalls are intertwined as a whole, but still individual.  Everyone, from time to time, faces one of these demons.  The only person who can succeed through them is YOU.

  • Display your why prominently in the room where you work.
  • Write down your plan of action
  • Write down your time management plan
  • Everyday reaffirm your commitment to your choice.

Everyone can have a successful work at home business.  Explore your options, make a commitment.  TODAY!

Here’s to a successful home business.
